Both the MIG chip 'for sale' and the non essential support BLUE chip are demonstrated. Also some 'not for sale' work in progress on the MIG chip (anti noise) and the BLUE chip (voltage regulator control and MIG anti noise control interfacing) are demonstrated.
The MIG enables the world's lowest parts count discriminating metal detectors to be built.
Following are notes relevant to the video
- Free upgrade web links for MIG and BLUE chips will be made available to customers, as upgrades become available. Upgrades is via a UART. USB-UART bridge devices can be used. PC software and scripts are provided. Scripts can be adapted if customers do not wish to run PC software.
- It is possible upgrades to the BLUE chip may require use of a chip with more resources. This means upgrades to the current version of the BLUE chip may eventually not work. We are looking into this more.
- The voltage regulator is close to the MIG chip. The voltage regulator did not use normal external feedback path to help control its output voltage. Rather the adjust pin was maintained at its desired voltage from the BLUE chip. We have not yet fully investigated the effects of this favourable or not.
- Unlike bench lab tests the full walrus tone effect was not achieved. Instead what appeared to happen was that the 'uncertain' tone and the 'walrus' tone appeared to merge. This needs to be investigated.
- With the MIG for sale as used for detection in the ground in a manner used by prospectors, the characteristic of retaining audio response for non-ferrous metal but reducing it for ferrous metal has not been tested over a wide range of ground.
- Due to rapid sweeping of the coil, at times the video appears jerky and out of synch with the audio.
- Using a headset or earphones will provide better audio on many PCs and laptops than the internal speakers.
- The coil and shaft are from the very inexpensive and highly regarded MD-1023 detector as imported from China and purchased from K-Mart in Australia. The control box is not used.
